In most cases, even big blocks, 5 quarts for the pan and 1 for the filter. I always put my 5 in for the pan fire it up for about 30 seconds, then check oil and top off from there so I dont over fill.

4 bangers or 6`s might be different generally a quart less.

Any Mod motor with an oil cooler will need an extra quart. From my experience the standard 4.6/5.4 uses 5 quarts.SVT derived engines use 6.But you still have to check to make sure it is topped off.But then you have to deal with ill reading dip stick.
