Thus my point.
I would suggest that you look at the TFI connector at the dist. I had one on my 85 GT that the wires were frayed(some were pulled out) and would lose contact occasionally and it wouldn't start, jiggle the connector and it'd fire right up.
Remember, all you need are fuel, compression, and ignition. If you have those 3 things at the proper time it will run.
Pull a wire/plug and check for fire at the plug. To check the fuel situation, turn the key to run(not start) and lightly depress the Schrader valve with a key/screwdriver, you should get a good squirt of gas from it. I imagine you have good compression, since it can't come and go very readily.
I'm leaning toward a short or loose wire near the dist as the cause.
