AOD broke-help!

Hi everyone,
This is the first time posting on the Late Model side, but I thought it would be appropriate. I have an AOD in my '67 Mustang and the other day I jumped on the freeway and shifted to overdrive and the trans just stayed in third gear. It shifts fine throughout all the gears, it just now suddenly won't go into overdrive. The trans was rebuilt about 4 years ago and has been against a very mild 302 for the whole 4 years without any problems. Anybody have any suggestions as to what may be the problem? I'd appreciate any input, thanks.

I had the same problem with my Thunderbird.I pulled the valvebody and removed...cleaned ....and re-installed all of the valves one by one.As I cleaned,I lubricated everything with Lucas Transmission Conditioner. After all was done,I buttoned everything up,new tranny fluid, and it worked fine. That was about 4 months ago.The caps on each one of the valves in the valvebody has a threaded hole.I went to the local hardware store and bought a long screw that fit and it made cap removal a breeze for about ..06 cents.Just thread the screw into the cap and pull it out with a small pair of vice grips (or pliers)...gently.If you choose to do this procedure,do one valve at a time, because many of them are different, and it's very easy to mix up parts.I hope this may help a little.Good luck.

Your 1 1/2 inch OD band is burned up more than likely. Upgrade to a 2 inch band and an A servo.
