If you are turn 7000 + rpms and using a mech flat or mech roller. i would use one.they will help keep your valve lash longer.

I would recomend a stud girdle if you are running 2-bolt block, but do make sure that your crank tunnel has been line bored with all intended hardware in place and tensioned to manufactures specs( stud kit, girdle)because the tunnel will distort and you will possibly lose your main bearing oil clearance. If possible line bore with cylinder torque plates also in place to receive true clearances.Use a good quality girdle and be sure to check that your rods and oil pump dont fowl on the girdle.

i would have my machine shop follow those guide lines but it was way to much up here to have it done so i ordered a
dss pro bullet with stud girdle,i have run one of there motors in the past with good results i really wanted to build my own bottem end but i guess it has got to the point that you are better off ordering a short block, besides
most machine shops get nervese when i talk about spraying a motor dss doesn't bat an eye
