My 93 Tbird is ALMOST done

I have been working on my weekend play tbird for about 1 1/2 years now, and it is almost done. I can at least take it out and drive it now.

Under the hood:

I still have to work on making a encloser to make the cowl hood fully funtional, and seal out engine heat. A 8 point roll bar will go in it this Winter.

Nice bird,it is good to see the birds and cougar gaining popularity, from the fox body to the MN12. Outside the hood that baby has SLEEPER written all over it. She should shock a few bow ties

I had a 93 5.0 T-Bird that was super-clean. The only issue I had was cooling. I didn't think that the 1-row aluminum was doing the job here in 100 degree SoCal. You really can't (or couldn't) find an aluminum upgrade (at least not without spending 600 BeCool bucks), so I had a custom 3-row brass and copper made. But it didn't help. I was also running a stacked plate oil cooler out of an 80's Crown Vic police interceptor. Still not enough for me. I finally came to the conclusion that the problem wasn't cooling capacity, but airflow through the radiator. The extra little slots that Ford snuck into the grille/bumper should have been the tipoff, but the packed engine compartment just wasn't letting enough airflow through the radiator, particularly at idle. I ultimately added a big electric pusher fan in front of the radiator junk-picked out of a Mercury Merkur, with a Hayden thermostat/relay kit set to keep it around 185. That worked pretty good. The bottom line for those of you out there with V8 MN12 Birds -- follow my steps in reverse: extra electric pusher fan in front of the radiator FIRST, then a radiator or oil cooler. An electric Black Magic or equivalent behind the radiaotr in place of the mechanical clutch fan might also be good, since you could sh*t-can the huge fan shroud, which almost completely sealed the engine compartment. Take my word -- airflow is the key -- it took me a year and some bucks to figure this out.

I had the same prolem with mine a couple years ago. I fecided that I was going to cool the new install good. I put a large Summit aluminum radiator in it and a Mark VIII fan in it with the new 393.

I am very happy with it.

In 90 + degrees, stop and go traffic and a 3,500 rpm conveter it stays below 190F
