How to plug cylinder smog fitting?

Have scraped the smog pump. What is the thread pattern on the rear of my 87 5.0L where the air inlet piping used to be. 5/16ths? Help me plug this safely. Thanks

How to plug cylinder smog fitting?

the first time i did it on my 89 i simply hacked of the tubing from the metal ends flipped them around so the flush metal faced the head and bolted them back on with the little bolts, didnt even use any silicone or anything, plugged it right up, ford sells the correct plug though, its double threaded inside and out, forgot the part number, good luck

For the rear you can use a short 13/16" headed bolt.

The Ford part number for those cylinder head inserts is :

F4ZZ-6E086-A

They come in a package of 2 and I think they cost around $10

I have used this method also many times, and it works well! Also I have seen other people use spark plugs to plug them. Basically it all depens on how much your pluggin. If the inserts are still in place then a bolt thread will plug it, if not and the whole insert comes out, then it will be a pipe thread If I remember correctly.........If it were me I'd do what "prim" and I have done and use the existing pieces with the tube cut off and (what I did was) actually weld the tube together!
good luck
Ben
