Fuel pump run on on a 1988 F250 460

Hello,
My first time on this forum. Looks like a good one. I have an '88 F 250 with a 460 engine. It has an in line electric fuel pump which is running on after the truck is turned off. The only way I can get it to stop is to unhook the battery cable. When I rehook the cable the pump starts again. There isn't any fuel leaking. Is there some sort of pressure switch . The truck still starts and runs well.
Thanks YC

If you don't see a leak, then it might be the fuel pump relay its not shutting off the power when the fuel line is presssureized.

For sure it's a sticking relay. (fuel pump relay). Both of them should be mounted on a slim metal holder gig on the drivers side inner fender. (pretty much directly over the tire).
Common concern/problem. Usually tho someone's disconnected the relays, and they're laying upside down, (where they collect water/crap, and corrode/go to hell fast).
Cheap repair tho, if it's just the relay. Under ten bucks if I remember right.
In either case, good luck, have fun.

(while you're there, ya might as well replace the PCM relay too). CYA.

I concur with dragstang. A sticking relay is very common. My '88 stang had one. I used to just whack it to get it to stop until I could change it ( it was under the driver seat). Stu
