94 gt odometer problems

The odometer in my son's 94 gt quit a while back. Speedo works fine.We have the cluster out right now installing white face gauges. Is this a common problem with these cars. I can see a small electric motor connected to a gear which drives the digits. The other end of the plug goes to a circuit board.
