Hogging Out a Cat

Has anyone had experience with clearing the "innards" out of a honeycomb catalytic converter? It would be preferred to acomplish this effort through the exhaust inlet/outlet of the converter, without having to cut a side off, so as not to arouse visual suspicion.

worked with a guy that did it but he cut the cats off, hogged them then rewelded it together, if anyone asked he just told them they had been replaced. (which wasn't really a lie)

i jus cut one pipe off and take an air hammer and pulverize the comb. Replace the cut off pipe with new so it looks as if the pipe needed tp be replaced and go for it

I've seen guys take a new "off-road" pipe, cut the old cat apart and weld the empty shell cover back in the same place. They either hot tank it or sand blast it lightly as to blend the area to the rest of the pipe, wet it down so surface rust starts, then install it.Make sure the welds are by a pro........or you"ll tip your hand!

I gutted the cat on my Jeep. I didnt need to cut it off becasue it was clamped on. I just wrestled it off. The cat was built on a straight peice of pipe for that Jeep, so I just took a piece of rebar and bashed out the honeycomb bit by bit through the pipe. After all the packing was out, I just remounted it.

The Jeep instantly felt like it had 15+ more horsepower. It also picked up 2-3 mpg under all driving conditions.
