-77 Cougar 4.6 Dohc

Greetings from Finland!
I am planning a engine swap to my vifes -77 Cougar xr7. I have bought a donor car, 100kmiles driven 1993 Mark VIII. I am going to use original computer, wiring harnes, relays and transmission from MKVIII. I may even try to put ABS and Traction control to Cougar. Will i run to some proplems with missing airbags, etz? Antitheft system should not de proplem until -96? I`m gonna use old dashboard and gauges and hide messagecenter somewhere. Where i can find good wiring diagram to Mark from net?

uhhh I am all for weird swaps man but your Cougar weighs ALOT more then a mark VIII and when I mean alot more at least 1500 pounds more and while for a 302 its not biggie a 4.6 it will struggle to move that car and the transmission will blow that is a 100% fact. missing airbags and whatnot will not be a problem but that motor is much to small for a 77 cougar those cars are just obscenely massive that is why the stock motor a 351m while didnt make alot of HP it made alot of Torque to move that big ass car around I am all for weird stuff but a mark VIII drivetrain is not enough to move that car sorry to say man.

3768lbs for a Mark 8. 3907lbs for the 77 Cougar. The MN12 based Mark is not light. Sounds like a great project!. I say, If it fits. Run it!

If weight and lack of torque is a worry, throw in a 3.75" stroker crank, SOHC heads for more low-end grunt, or even a 5.4. However, if you are going to use the 4.6 as is, know that the 4V heads on it don't give the engine any torque but tons of power. Also, for all out performance, the intake that comes with it is not the best choice but helps the torque.

I have 3.25 gears waiting to be installed. I dont believe that 4.6 with 4R70W and 3.25 ratio is slower than 351m/FMX/2.54:1! 4R70W has smoler 1-2 ratios than FMX?

I'm doing a Time Attack 79 THUNDERBIRD my self . I'm still flip-floping over the engine . I'v seen a Marauder with a4.6L Intech on Youtube blow by a Audi TT and 911 like nothing with no engine modifcations . If I use a modular engine it will have to be a stroker , 5.3L 32V Intech might do it. And 4.10-1 gears in back .

Cougar is not gonna be a race car. Like i wrote, my vife will drive it. We are looking reliable drivetrain with good fuel economy, and some power if some bmw start to play... I´ll try this marks engine first. I have other thread about noise from this engine, if there is proplem with bearings and cranksaft, i may put stroker crank. How this marks tachometer is working, will it get 8 impuls in one round like older tach or just one?

Only Problem is Parts for the DOHC is stuff is way Expensive.

Depending on what the car has now, I'd consider doing a Windsor Stroker with a AOD. It would make things alot simpler and would probably be cheaper to do. IMO

When you have cash, you should consider swapping th B-heads for 01+ tumble ports since they'll help your torque out.
