head rebuild ?

Like I said before I plan an putting a set of explorer gt40 heads on my car. These heads are going to be high mileage heads. With money as an issue what absolutely has to be done to these heads, to insure there performance. I know valve springs and lifters are a must, but besides that do I really need to get a 3 or whatever angle valve job done? or anything for that matter. Oh and other then me gasket matching the heads, what else can i do to sqeeze a couple extra hp out of them.

Re: head rebuild ?

It all depends on what they are going on and how fast you want to go.

Re: head rebuild ?

My budget is pretty tight, I'm a broke college kid so the cheaper the better. I dont wana just throw the heads right on the car, that would just be stupid on my part, but at the same time I dont wana a $500 machine shop bill. So a nice happy medium I guess

Re: head rebuild ?

I would do as mentioned in the other post, check that the valve seats are in good shape by the same method. If so, lap the valves, check guide clearances, seals and new springs. Three angle is not absolutely neccessary.

Re: head rebuild ?

a few things, the explore heads are the gt40p heads.the sprak plug angle is alittle more that the e7 heads.you might be able to use your stock headers,if not you have to get hte ones for the "p" heads.reason being is that the spark plugs might hit the header flange of the stock ones.another thing is running the stock mustang rockers will not work unless you get a longer push rod.the rocker bosses are higher than the e7 heads or you can go adjustable and be good with those.you also have to run a spark plug from a explore.i got them for a 98.all this stuff i already went through.
