460 efi questions

Hello,
i have a '79 towncar with a 400 in it. I was changing the cam, and planned on doing the heads, and build a OD tranny in it. When figuring one and other out, i concluded to go with the E4OD.
Now, in my search for one, i stumbled onto someone that was selling a freshly rebuilt 460EFI with an E4OD attached, including wires, injectors, etc.etc.
it is a '91 truck engine, and has a new RV cam in it, and KB hyperteutic pistons, as a rteplacement.
He clasims the cr is now 8.8 instead of 8.5, and the engine needs a high grade fuel.
Now, i have some questions, as i am thinking about ditching the 400, and swap the 460 in it.
I run on propane only, and very very occasionally on gas.
I was thinking of actually futher increasing the CR. is this possible/advisible?
Are there more power-adders to this engine?
I want to use it for dayly driving with the highest MPG as possible... (that's why i intended upgrading cr on my 400 and putti' in a OD in it in the first place..)
leving some black stripe marks on the pavement now and then is a highly appreciated bonus, but definately NOT my MAIN goal...

Any help/info/links/articles are VERY welcome.

thanks!!!

Re: 460 efi questions

The E4OD is a very large case trans. Doubtful it will fit the LINC as it was designed for light truck.

Re: 460 efi questions

As I already have spoiled your dinner, let me take care of dessert.

The 460 (7.5L) EFI has a high twin throttle body that will not allow your hood to close. There is an adaptor available to change the type of throttle body.

Re: 460 efi questions

Thanks Cultuz,

you havn't spoiled my dinner
I know it won't be a " 2 hour swap" , but it definately should be made to fit.
Dou you know is the tunnel of the MK-V is the same as the Towncar?

Do you have info about the other intake plenum? I wanted to fabricate one myself, but if it's available, it's always better... Did'nt intend to make a "mopar-style" scoop or anything! yuck!

Any info on the other q's?

Also, i read today that the '91 injection isn't sequential, but 2-bank style?
What should i do to change that?

Thanks!

Stef.

Re: 460 efi questions

Price Motorsport makes an adaptor to mount either a 4 hole throttle body or a modified upper plenum able to use on a passenger car.

There is a MAF kit available and to convert it to SEFI and MAF-

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...sion/index.php

To raise the CR, you will need pistons as the EFI head (88/ ) is unique over the earlier carb heads.

Anything else, just ask.

ADDED-

Edelbrock.com - EFI - Intake Elbows

I think you are going to have to go woith an AOD-AODE or 4R70W trans with a 385 Engine Series adaptor.

Re: 460 efi questions

Hi, Wouldn't You Need A Lpg Carb To Run Propane? I Have A Cat Forklift At Work That Has A Convertable Fuel Option (gasoline To Lpg) With A Propane System, And Bowl/ Float Arraingement.

Re: 460 efi questions

Also, I cant imagine how a 8.8 compression ratio in a 460 would require high octane fuel. I would not hesitate to run 87 octane in a 460 with EFI. I have a friend running a 460 with 9.5 cr in a F150 that is fine with 87 unless he is towing or has a heavy load in the bed.

Re: 460 efi questions

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I got a question.

Are you planning on running teh 460 as a mass air fuel injected system as opposed to speed density which is standard for most 460 applications such as the '71 you are using? Are you sure the existing computer will handle the larger engine?

Re: 460 efi questions

Is this 460 running as a mass air system rather than speed density? If so, what computer is your friend using?
