Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

the 3.0L V6 4-runners were constantly blowing head gaskets, I made A LOT of money on those.

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

Nice! Ok so I have fixed the smoke problem I managed to get a new cat and muffler changed out the spark plugs, wires, coil, and O2 sensor. Way more powerful now it's like a different truck......... Anyhow. Now I have low oil pressure. Sorry I don't mean NOW I meant I just noticed I have low oil pressure. When it's in park and I rev it up the pressure looks fine. Then when I put it in drive it drops to the L. I have recently changed the oil and filter to 5W-30 and checked the level it's fine. BTW ZephyrZ7 It's turning into an Illness.

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

Put on a gauge. Low don't mean Jack Schitt unless you put a # to it. as long as the pressure is alway's more or equal to it's counterapart in rpm's then you will be fine...

I.E. Idle at 500 rpm's you need 5 psi or higher to keep the bearings from rubbing metal to metal...

Good oil pressure ='s 10 PSI per 1,000 Rpms.

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

Toyota's oil pressure specs will make you laugh, most of their stuff willgive a spec like 4.3psi-55 psi is considered OK.

Some 4 runners were made in different assembly plants than others I remember some of them when revved would let the oil psi gauge rise rapidly others rose much slower, typically there is nothing wrong.

I remember one time I had a moron of a service manager wanted to "fix" one of the ones that rose slowly because the customer had a friend that had a truck thatrose quickly, I told him "you could put all the senders/gauges in the world on it but its never going to change unless you lie about where it was made dufus", I dont know why most managers dont like me!

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

I took the old oil sending unit off my 1990 motor and put it on the 1994 motor that is in my car cut the harness wire a little solder and presto oil pressure is back and looking good! The car is running better than when I bought it used.

Any idea what a flashing O/D off light means. Thanks again for all the help you guys!

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

Finally got it running pretty well. I'm going to get a O2 sensor this weekend and smogging it the same day. Wish me luck.

its flashing because there's a transmission code stored in it, do you have everything on the trans hooked up? How does it shift? I'm assuming its an automatic, 2wd or 4wd?

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

Yes auto 4wd. Shifts really well. I didn't hook up the spedo cable and it didn't shift when I had first installed it. Once I put that in it started shifting. So if it is a code stored in it can I just buy a code reader and figure it out like that? Maybe something like this? Code Reader Import INN3173

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

The code could have occured when you didn't have the speedo hooked up in that case you might try and disconnect the battery and see if it stays off. Otherwise read the code. I know on engine codes you jump Te to E1 in the diagnosis box under the hood, if I remember right its the same for transmission codes, if not I'll find out for you.

Re: Please help! SMOKE out the exhaust!

No luck I disconnected the battery and hooked it back up drove about a half a block and the light came back on. Is there a certain amount of time you have to keep it off for?
