How are you gonna use this car? Drag or street or a little of both. Cause I don`t know of any that are emmision legal. I have never run one but I do know this. You WILL loose all bottom end tourqe. As a short runner or in this case NO runner will kill bottom end tourqe. Now i`m not going to debate tourqe vrs. hp or several people will jump on me. If you wanna make good hp then you gotta make tourqe first. I went to my internet browser and type in "box intake" in the search bar and came up with a lot of info and Trick Flow makes a "bread box" intake.

Re: Box type upper intake manifold help

With a 383, the stroke will more than make up for any loss of low end on that motor. What kind of car are we talking about here? In a light mustang you would never notice any loss in low end torque. I had a friend back in high school that ran a cartech box on his 5.0 (92 fox) and that thing was a bullet. He had 3.73 gears and he got out of the hole QUICK. One nice thing about them is that they will fit a efi 64-73 mustang without going to a specialized export brace.

Dont worry about the small loss in low rpm torque...unless you are putting it in a galaxie.

NOW!! we have some activity. Goal accomplished!! Your point on the stroke is well taken. Poster doese`nt really give much info. Heads , exhaust , cam ect. AOD or stick? A lot to be left unanswered?

Re: Box type upper intake manifold help

I'm going to have to disagree with settling for a loss of torque...especially if this is a naturally aspirated application. The whole point of a stroker is to gain torque...that's what these motors do best.

Stick with a long-runner intake that has enough port volume to support upper RPM flow as well.

Thanks for the "bail out"

Re: Box type upper intake manifold help

I've used a box upper on my 408w and loved it.
Lightning lower with comp cams box upper.

loss of low end will also be influenced by cam selection (among other things...)

I did not have a "low end power loss" in my pos!

Re: Box type upper intake manifold help

Did you run a long runner intake on the same combination beforehand?

Re: Box type upper intake manifold help

On the 408w... no.

There was no way I was going to choke the motor any more than I already was with a Lightning lower intake.

I see the same 'long/small runners make more torque' argument being pushed here.

Let me ask a more general/basic question...
"How does a restriction in the intake create more output?"
