Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

And the TFI module wouldn't necessarily fix it either........ don't lean towards spending more money guessing, start by checking what the system is logging in terms of failure codes now..... before continuing with the spending spree. Just a thought.

You are SO ! correct. Went to store and bought OBD1 reader. Its a little easier than trying to just ground STI. Work great in audio mode cause you dont have to try and write while trying to watch flashes. This can also be used on many early fords so not a waste of money to me. Here is the prob, I DONT KNOW HOW TO INTERPRET what I recorded?? I will post the resuls now and hope somebody can help!! F= Flash and * = the approximate lenght of the pause the best I could guess.

FF*F*F***F*F*****F***FFFF*F*FFFFFFFFF*F*FFFF*F*FFF FFFFFF*F. Test Complete I guess. No more flashes. One other thing I dont know. Does this computer throw 2 didget codes or 3 ?

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

It will throw 2 AND 3 digit codes. OBD 1 had a flash of up to 3 numbers IIRC...

Looks like you got several codes... and one big messed up code....

If there is no code, you will normally get code 11 or 111. On Fords, there are 2 test modes, the KOEO (key on engine off) and the KOER (key on engine running). Both test modes should be used to get the accurate evaluation of the stored fault codes.

Are you sayin I got nothin that can be seen or evaluated and I need to do running test. Define "one big messed up code"

Fast Flash + 11 + 11 + separator code + 41 + 91 + 41 + 91

Hard failure codes not present since 11 = system pass as On Demand codes

41/91 = engine is staying under lean condition in both banks for a long period of time as the Memory codes show.

41 - No o2 Sensor Switching Detected. always lean -passenger side(M)
91 - No o2 Sensor Switching Detected. always lean -driver side(M)

Suggest to run a KOER self test making sure the engine is at op temp (coolant temp >170° F) and LUK the results. The idle problem you have is due to a "permanent" lean condition affecting the system's adaptive strategy due to............stay tuned.

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

Kooks like the same results as KOEO. At least in the ffff*F*fffffffff. FF** is a little puzzling!!

Replaced O@s about 3 weeks ago. If it as wiring prob I would find it hard to think it would be BOTH at same time?? My deduction not yours . You are apparently A LOT!! smarter than I am.

Is this a 6 cyl. engine?...... the first set of flashes = engine ID code 2 = 4 cyl, 3 = 6cyl and 4 = 8 cyl....... and the initial "FF" before the 41 and 91 is confusing...... anywho,

The system is working under a permanent lean condition, assuming this is a 5.0L setup, start by checking the HEGO ground wire (orange in color and tagged with #19 below) is bolted to the rear of the LH cylinder head or intake. If this ground is not attached, the system will "see" a false lean condition.
