Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

Thanks for"the detail"!!! I am currently at 43psi on 19# injectors(set with vac unhooked). I`m not looking a "gift horse in the mouth" BBBUUUUUTTTT, This engine has run at 43psi for four year and all of a sudden, out of the blue , it`s not enough fuel???? I`m a logical type of guy so I have to ask some questions here. Will 19# injectors handle more pressure. Pressure is pressure not nessarily more fuel. If you take a gallon of liquid and put say 40 # of pressure to it then put 50# of pressure to it you still have a gallon of liquid. Wish I had an A/F ratio gauge. To damn expensive. Would love to do wide band monitoring. What would you sugest as a good incremental point. One or two psi at a time until it goes rich then back it off a little. How much is to much psi for stock injectors and lastly, THANKS JOEL, YOU REALLY HUNG IN THERE AND HAD THE TEMPER TO DEAL WITH ME. I HAVE LEARNED MORE IN TWO WEEKS FROM YOU THAN IN FIVE YEARS FROM ANY ONE OR PLACE. I joined another forum as a way to maybe see the more technical side of how these efi cars "tick". See you on the flip side!!!

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

I have a set of used , E-bay specials. 24# injectors. Would need to change sample tube. I was gonna wait until I upgraded the intake, heads and exhaust. I also have a Ford 190ltr. fuel pump, brand new still in the box. What u think? Just thinkin out loud. Plan on doing ur perscription first but also thinking "what if "

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

The stock FP specification is 30-45 psi engine running vacuum connected. Having an O2 code present means the corrections the system does to the fuel trim are outside its ±12.5% capability to increase/decrease the injectors fuel pulse width (FPW)....... a good starting point would be 39-40 psi vacuum line connected...... if the EEC can control A/F within that pressure (= O2 codes not showing in a KOER), let the EEC do its work.... if the lean codes show up at that point, raise FP to 42 psi and recheck.

Fuel pressure is not a tuning parameter, the EEC will auto compensate for any variance of that non-EEC controlled parameter based on the feedback from the O2s (in close loop) + learn through the adaptive strategy to add the required offset fuel trim to prevent over compensating for it during open loop operation by changing the base fuel/spark tables. Since the open loop base tables get an A/F "adder or reducer", the learned fuel trim is applied for all open loop conditions (cold start up, warm up and WOT).

In your case, it's a matter of providing the correct FP so the EEC fuel trim corrections fall within its ±12.5% capability window, and not have the A/F failure codes.

I`m gonna have to "soak" on that for a while but I think ur saying that i am out of range of correction factor therefore 41/91.

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

Ran car to temp with FPR plugged(did`nt wanna throw a code right off). Hook up vac to fuel reg and crank to 40.5psi (just were it landed) . Ran koer with a repete 11 PASS, you heard me PASS,PASS,PASS!!! Ran car 15min. Idle great!! Even ran a/c to see if false hope. Nope , even with a/c on and sittibg in drive , idle steady. Came back home . Shut off engine . Restart. Ran koer again to see if just a fluke. Nope. Still an 11. Gonna run car for a few day`s and see if it holds. I drive alot while I work so we shall see but "BIG DADDY" I think u fixed it. I have learned a valuable lesson here in that throwing money at a problem is for uneducated people. I have about(truthfully) $900 in bull crap that I did not need. That would have been the majority of the money needed for a new set of performance heads as I am now out of money set aside for "goodies". Thanks again Joel50

Re: Idle problem AGAIN!! NO WAY?

.... glad to read it's working the way it's supposed to......

If I may, and please don't interpret anything negative, I would like to use this thread as an example of how expensive solving a problem could get, if the "free" tools the system has are not used. You shouldn't have any problems, but if you do...... you know where to find me.

You may use these thread(s) any way you like!! Your the one that fixed the car not me. Further more, I take no offence to the above post . Facts are facts and if a person can`t learn from there mistakes then what has been accomplished?... not a darn thing!!
