I have a similar set that have been collecting dust 'n rust in the shelf in my garage. I have too much money and pride in them to let them go cheap; but just like you mentioned, I find it hard to recommend them to the average guy that "must" have the latest, greatest, aftermarket heads - whether his engine can use them or not.
Once ported, they are at least as good as similarly modified '69 351 heads. Unless you really have your mind set on aluminum heads - I still think they are a pretty good good solution for a street engine. They are best used "if" you are capable of doing the porting yourself, either because you are good at it or just want to learn how its done.
I'm still not totally convienced of the wonderful qualities of aluminum heads? A well ported set of factory (or Dart, windsor Sr/Jr) iron heads, in the right application can hold their own. Its unfortunate that development has bypassed the harder to work, harder to cast iron heads. Its much cheaper, faster for a vendor to ship, stock, CNC aluminum heads than swim against the tide. Oh, well - as always, its the
lemmings that dictate what will be on the shelf at the speed shop, not necessarily what is best for building a combination that works for a particular use.
