cylinder heads

Won a set of E7TE heads on E-bay. Saw some great porting DYI articales on this site and some others. Thought I may give it a shot. Or maybe send them out for some work. Most articals claim that some real good port work can maybe match name brand out of the box heads. What do ya think???? Planned on all new quality componants as these heads have about 70 thou on them.

Re: cylinder heads

There are plenty of DIY head porting articles that you can use. If you want to get them ported, valve job, springs/retainers upgraded, etc...... this is the guy I go to. This is a set of GT40p heads he prepared for a customer of mine, and the quality of his work is obvious.

Re: cylinder heads

Good luck with the heads , you will find that you will spend just as much or more for these heads, as a good out of the box aftermarket set that will flow better than a set of ported stockers . I have a set of old 289 heads that were race ported that cost me $1600.00 this was when there was no aftermarket Ford heads available , a set of AFR heads will outflow these heads by a large margin .

I have a similar set that have been collecting dust 'n rust in the shelf in my garage. I have too much money and pride in them to let them go cheap; but just like you mentioned, I find it hard to recommend them to the average guy that "must" have the latest, greatest, aftermarket heads - whether his engine can use them or not.

Once ported, they are at least as good as similarly modified '69 351 heads. Unless you really have your mind set on aluminum heads - I still think they are a pretty good good solution for a street engine. They are best used "if" you are capable of doing the porting yourself, either because you are good at it or just want to learn how its done.

I'm still not totally convienced of the wonderful qualities of aluminum heads? A well ported set of factory (or Dart, windsor Sr/Jr) iron heads, in the right application can hold their own. Its unfortunate that development has bypassed the harder to work, harder to cast iron heads. Its much cheaper, faster for a vendor to ship, stock, CNC aluminum heads than swim against the tide. Oh, well - as always, its the lemmings that dictate what will be on the shelf at the speed shop, not necessarily what is best for building a combination that works for a particular use.
