speed limiter

I'm running an EEC-V system(5.0) and my truck will get up to @ 50 MPH and thats it. RPM doesn't matter. It cuts out at that speed and until I slow to a point below that, I cannot accelerate. Any ideas?

Re: speed limiter

Remove the EEC-V system and get a carb, or disconnect the speedometer?

You got me... What speed sensor shuts down a car at 50???

Re: speed limiter

the wifes now past tense pt loozer would only run 80 then it hit it's leash . see if you can find someone with the right diagnostic equipment that knows how to use it , and get them to take a look see , and maybe they can tell you what's up and if it really does have a leash on it that low . hades i have a 292 in the garage that has a regulated distributor and carb that only let the truck it was in run 45 , and this was factory . kept anyone from overrevving it with the gears it had and popping it .

Re: speed limiter

Is there a check engine light on? It might be the Vehicle Speed sensor in the tailshaft of the tranny.

Re: speed limiter

That seems really low. I'm not familar with any truck with a speed limiter set that low and I've reprogrammed 100s of them. Did you swap rear gears, go to a smaller tire or something. Now on some trucks the speed sensor is in the rear axle so changing these wouldn't effect anything but others it is in the transmission output shaft where it would. Is this a engine trans swap?

Re: speed limiter

The set up is from a 1996 F150. 5.0/4R70W
I have installed it in a 63 Unibody and put a speed sensor in the tailshaft. I installed a 96 T-bird instrument cluster which has electronic speedo and it reads real close to right. I haven't had a chance to have someone plug it into a computer programmer but everything else seems to work great.
Thanx, Tim

Re: speed limiter

What is the code on the EEC. Should be a 4 digit alpha numerical. I can pull it up and see where it is set at. What gears are you running and what color or number of teeth for the speedo gear did you install?
