Re: '94 cougar as a donor?

So it sounds like my best bet would be to find a crown vic, or town car from '01 to '03? I heard the Lincoln harnesses are kind of a bear for doing swaps, with alot more wires in them than needed.

Re: '94 cougar as a donor?

Yes that would be a good choice. The engine is identical to the Mustang with the exception of the upper intake which faces the driver's side. Don't fall for the hype about the Police Interceptors having more hp and or a special engine. I get this a lot at salvage yards and ebay where they claim it is special. It is the exact same engine. The different rating is due to dual exhaust over the non and slightly better calibration in the PCM. Same reason the Mustang is rated higher.

The PCM, engine/trans harness is actually much shorter than most vehicles. The PCM is located just to the side of the master cylinder and all its connectors are directly under the master cylinder. This makes for a compact setup if that is what is needed. Whereas if you are needing to run it to say the glove box of your hotrod it would need to be extended. As for the amount of wires, yes there are some that need to be trimmed away but it's not difficult to weed through them. Another choice would be to use a Mustang harness of the similar year and it will pretty much plug directly on to the engine. The pins would need to be switched around since not all will line up with the different PCMs. Or you could use the Mustang PCM also. Another choice but more costly would be aftermarket harnesses. Also in 01 the Mustang no longer used a speed sensor so you have to look out for that. In 03 the CVs and Town Cars stopped using a speed sensor also.
