Fuel gauge.

1986 f150. Fuel gauge reds empty and I still have about half a tank of gas. Dual tanks. Does the same for either tank. Always has but now I have new in tank pumps and sending units and no change. Whats up?

Re: Fuel gauge.

Broken fuel gauge silly....

Is the gauge getting any voltage with the key ON?

Take the cluster loose and start testing with a multimeter...

LOL! And this from a guy looking for a 8 sided socket! Just kiddin ya FE. I haven't taken the thing apart yet. It works now but it reads empty at a half tank. Kind of lookin for advice on what to check first. Just a push start to get me going! Thanks guys, I appreciate any help.

Re: Fuel gauge.

if it reads empty at half then you likely have rheostat issues in the tank or the voltage to the gauge is too low. Check the gauge for a good contact to the motherboard.

Re: Fuel gauge.

Thanks FE! It acts the same as before the new sending unit and pumps, so I will tear into the dash.
