Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
We are actually thinking about running the C-6 trans on the convertible. Does anyone else make motor mounts for the conversion, or is Crites the only ones? We would go with an AOD from Lentech but I am not sure it would fit under the trans tunnel either. I am going to re-read you thread to see what other 514 tidbits I can extract.
Just re-read the post. I can't find anything about the tranny and clearance issues. Must have been in a different thread. Could you re-enlighten me? Thanks.

Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
For me to do it all over again, I would have dropped the engine in before seperating the frame and body to account for this in fabricating before any paint flew. Now, it just doesn't touch but the body is shimmed here and there anyways from bieng in demolition derby's from what I've seen. Christ, seeing how this car came from Georgia, I think she ran from the revenuers a few times off road. Or, if the bottom is gonna be flat black and easily touched up, adjust it later if need be.
Next car I will know more, can't know any less sometimes!

Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
Car is going to be painted on the bottom and inside with Rhino lining. Not sure if that is a geographical term or not. If so, it's the stuff people paint the inside of their truck beds with. Should never allow rust and will dampen any vibration or sound. Shouldn't have to worry about touching up the underneath paint then. What headers did you use? FPA makes a set of shorties that fit the 514 and allow for running exhaust pipes without hitting the x brace. Will probably suffer a little on higher rpm's though in comparison to a hardtop with tri-y headers.

Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
I used Crites long tubes and I think because originally I wanted P/S I got them made around that. Well, as it turns out, no P/S for me and the headers seemed a little close to some stuff, manual steering box as an example. We heated that spot and rolled it, now it clears there and a few other places really nice. After that, I sent the headers to a local guy for ceramic coating, not cheap but nice. I find POR 15 nice underneath, but man is it potent, Rhino will dampen the sound alot better.

Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
Thanks Deb, Ssnake-oyl did an incredible job, pictures do them no justice. I was really happy to re-use the refinished original pieces on this car wherever possible. Everyone thinks it's cool how they work and especially them replicating the original labels. It reminds me of why I chose a old car over a new one.

My son has no problem buckling them but everyone else has an awful time getting them hooked. Because of my curvasiousness I have the original type set and another longer set on the driver side. The belts aren't original though and are green but after trying on ebay a few times I decided that one day they can be dyed. As for the second set and the belts I used in the rear seat, it's the only thing that came out of the GM van I had for a short time that was worth anything.
Reuse, recycle or whatever it is we have to do to get them where or how we want them!
Deb

Re: Orange 64 Galaxie Progess
I finally got to calling the guy to install the windows, windshield and rear that is. I myself procrastinate enough but have been busy. I'll post some pics, one in particular I'm proud of when they're in and the trim is on.
