Torino 500 - Saved From the Crusher
I couldn't let this car get crushed, so I brought it home like wet, cold, tired abused dog. I spotted it one day at the recycling yard, and I went to inquire about it, they were going to crush it.
I didn't want that to happen and believe me, we went 'round and round' with this. They did'nt want to sell it, they were coming up with all kinds of excuses as to why they couldn't sell it. A long story short, I won! I got to buy it from them.
It's in pretty nice shape. The body is totally straight, the car is complete, it runs and drives perfectly. Somebody simply lost interest in it, and decided to junk it.
The back window was removed and they wrapped it in a blanket and put it inside the car. Same thing with all the interior panels. They were all wrapped up, and all the little clips, screws, nuts, and small pieces of the interior were bagged and tagged with little notes on where everything goes!!
Its a regular Torino 500, but its got the absolute nicest hide-a-way headlight/grille I've ever seen, and it works too!
My plans for it are to fix it up eventually, and sell it.....as I have too many cars to keep right now, but I couldn't let this one go to the crusher like that. This car still has the factory paint markings on the underside of the car. Its totally rust free underneath. The only rust is around the rear window channel which is typical for these (this one had a vinyl top), and its an easy fix!
Because the car was rescued from the salvage yard, it has a salvaged title, which scares off most people, but you can clearly tell from its condition that its never been wrecked or hurt in any way. So to me, its not a truly salvaged vehicle, its a rescued one!
Stock 351C 2V/C4 trans, 9" inch rear.
