Re: 65 Ranchero
Jimmy,
Thanks for the post. Nice detail work on the motor. Give us a little more info. How about a picture of the Ranchero?
Cheers,
Jon

Hi Jon,
Well, I couldn't find "edit" so maybe you can put this where it goes. And thanks for consolidating my pics last night too. I realized too late that that's what I should have done. So.......
65 Ranchero real V8 car. Much rust and bondo. I'm basically working out the bugs on this car before putting everything into the green car in the pic and doing a cherry resto. It's a 64 6cyl car with a great body and no rust. The black car is nice in that I drive it everyday and don't have to worry about it getting banged up, and fortunately for me, rat cars are kinda in :-). It's got Monarch disc brakes up front, 4spd top loader, Auburn 3.4-1 posi, and this new 5.0 motor I just built out of a 88 roller cam Mustang. I'm a machinist at a Napa Auto parts store and basically did the whole shebang, balanced-blueprinted etc. Using a lot of Edelbrock stuff, RPM cam, airgap manifold, fuelpump. Ford racing lifters, pushrods, valvesprings, underdrive pulleys. The only cheap route I took (cost, certainly not labor) was with the heads. I didn't really have the bucks to go aftermarket aluminum so I found some small chamber 298 heads off a 65 Mustang and put 1.94 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves, and ported the heck out of them. I actually had a speed shop guy flow bench one head, port one chamber's worth, and I copied it with the other 7. It has about 100miles on it and runs real strong. I just joined up so looking forward to reading and talking FORDS.
Jim.

Hi,
Those valve covers were something I did with a spray paint made by Dupli-color called Metalcast. It's kind of fake anodizing and looks pretty good. The valve covers actually look better in person then in the pic. It's made to be sprayed over chrome or polished aluminum to get that look. You use a adhesion promoter first. It takes some practice, and a steady hand when using a razorblade to get the paint off the tops of the letters and fins. Jim.

Re: 65 Ranchero
Love your car!
I am putting a 1988 5,0 HO EFI in my 62 Ranchero.
I will use the AOD from the same Lincoln Continental.
What headers do you have and how do they fit?
I have considered Doug Thorley's 3-Y but I have not heard of anyone using them in this application.

Re: 65 Ranchero
Hey Magnus,
I am using Doug's headers and I REALLY like them. The fit is perfect. I coudn't be happier. I'm stoked! (no, I don't work for Doug's :-). They weren't cheap though. 530$ through Summit, # DOU D660YS for manual trans. 400$ without the ceramic coating but they'll rust eventually. The fit is tight and I did have to jack the engine out of it's mounts, shove it over to one side, then do the same with the other side, but once in they avoid every boss, mount, frame piece etc perfectly. And thanks for the props on my car, and good luck with your 63!
Jim.
