1978 F250 - The Motor is Out!

I finally had the time to pull the 351M from my 78 F-250 on Sunday. I pulled the front clip off the truck to make getting to the engine easier, and that made all of the difference in the world. On to the pics:

Now the teardown really begins. I'll have to pull the motor off the stand to get the flexplate off (duh!), but it should be smooth sailing after that. The plan is to rebuild it to a stout 400. Should be fun. You can see the rest of the pics at my Supermotors page: dustinova's SuperMotors page.

Just a little bit . If you think that's bad, you should have seen the frame and the front differential. There were spots were the grease/grime was 1/2" thick!

Nice Dustin. Be sure to document your progress for us and I am interested to see how you build the 400. Looks like I'll be building mine for FordMuscle at the same time.

Re: 1978 F250 - The Motor is Out!

Well, the 400 plans may be gone. I found a 460 for dirt cheap so I picked it up. One of the cylinders is pretty rusty though, so I need to have a machine shop check to make sure it's buildable, but if so, I'll be going this route.
