Ford Taunus V8 project

Hi I'm from Belgium and I'm working on a project myself to, i have my own website so feel free to visit it, it has a lot more pics than i posted here, I'll keep posting updates here if that allright. This website is about the hard work and suffering (mostly my wallet's) that goes into the rebuilding of my '78 Ford Taunus. The car will be transformed into a street/strip car. It has been in my possession for over five years now and I started the project in October 2003. I had already rebuilt the car once before, including paintjob and a homemade 2.8 V6 turbo engine that produced 250 HP.

But bigger is better and I'm not easily satisfied, that's why I decided to build a more powerful engine, install a stronger gearbox and rear axle, brake discs, adjustable shock absorbers etc. For the new engine I'm aiming at an output of about 500-600hp. Let's see if I meet my own challenge…

Enjoy www.extremefordtaunusproject.net

John.

Pretty awesome BelgianGuy. The first time I learned about the Taunus was when I did this article:

Good luck with your project and keep us posted.

Re: Ford Taunus V8 project

The Taunus is known as a Cortina in Australia. They are quite easy to throw a V8 into them, as it's quite often done here.
There is a guy here with a turbo Cleveland, who has done a high 7 in the quarter mile.
Very nice job you're doing there, BelgianGuy!

Re: Ford Taunus V8 project

Hey, I had plenty of those. Actually my first car was one of those.

They built few of those with 5.0, but the laws changed and it is no more possible to build one. The ones with 5.0 liter displacement bring good money.

Good luck for the build.

Re: Ford Taunus V8 project

Looking forward to seeing the outcome of your project! I had a '72 Taunus 4 spd in Germany. It was a great little car.

That thing had seatbelts so long you could get out of the car almost completely without unbuckling too! I found out accidently. The only car I've ever seen with belts like that but better than too short!

Good luck with the project!

Deb

Re: Ford Taunus V8 project

Hey dont mean to Jack your thread but I used to do alot of work for a Company called LVD, based it Belgium. I worked on CNC lasers and used to make all my car parts on them all the time. I wish I still had access to one to burn parts on.
