1968 Mustang - Restomod Hardtop

In January 2005, I bought my first classic car, my first american car and now, November 2007, I don't regret it. I spent so much money on it but now, I'm almost done my Restomod dream...

It has a 289ci V8 engine, power steering, full drums, front bench seat. Coming from California. I bought it from a Belgian seller who does import classic car.

First year, we worked on the interior, we have installed the following parts:

- Carpet
- Door panel
- Dashboard
- Sunvisors
- Insulators
- Bezels
- Hoses, clamps, oil filter, brake, ...

To be continued...

Beautiful Sponge. That's a nice car no matter where you are, but it must seem really special in Belgium. I like the other cars in the yard you took your pictures in too.

Looks like a nice car! It even has the pretty rare bench front seat....What are the future plans for it.

Re: 1968 Mustang - Restomod Hardtop

Just give me a few minutes to write

The first year, we refreshed the car:

- Interior
- Brake rebuilt
- Engine: spark plugs, belts, oil, valve cover, radiator & heat hoses, etc...
- Shocks
- Leaf springs
- New dual exhaust
- Power steering hoses

The next in a few hours...

Re: 1968 Mustang - Restomod Hardtop

I bought it in 2005, the biggest mods are for 2007 so please, let me a few hours to write my story

As you are all to impatient to wait, I forward my story from 2005 to 2007.

January 2007, it's time to work hard on the pony. The rust is present, everywhere and I hate that! I got some leaks, my engine is tired, it's was really time to redone everything!!!!

Let's being. The first step was:

We checked the engine and it never been open since the beginning, very disgusting...

Job's done. After cleaning the engine block, we found a crack between 2 cylinders so I prefered searching another engine bare block and I found a 71. Let's continue!

For the Restomod parts, I bought them from Mustangs Plus:

Back to the car now. We had to cut the brand new front valance. Was too short for my car. It required a few days to make it great, the same problem for the hood and deck lid...

Car inspection: rust, rust and rust...

The door panels have been removed and no surprise, rust.

Re: 1968 Mustang - Restomod Hardtop

Now it does fit better...

The California deck lid installed, looking good... But need work...

The cowl hood needed also a lot of attention...

The rusty areas are cut then we sandblasted the other sheet to remove all rust.

Now it does look good...

Door shells have been sandblasted, then protected with a anti-rust paint in order to install the new door panels.

Re: 1968 Mustang - Restomod Hardtop

Another big work was: the leaky cowl, as on most Mustangs...

Can we save the sheet? Hell no...

Another surprise, the deck lid...

Let's fix the deck lid... How we deal that? Sandblasting, anti-rust paint, weld the new part.

Another nice part.
