Re: Gran Torino Fastback - Vynil Roof

Hey, nice work not showing any fear with it.

Hope you don't mind that FM took the initiative to move the post over from the Torino forum to the Makin' Progess forum. There's still a redirect over there.

Nice work bro. Looks like you got a nice facility to work in. Is that your shop or is someone letting you work there? Space makes it so convenient.

Just noticed you got another fastback in the back. Parts or another project?

Re: Gran Torino Fastback - Vinyl Roof

Thanks, but the shop is weekendcarcare's who is a member and is fully restoring his 72 GTS. I'm trying to build mine in between his repair schedule. The man knows his stuff, I'd be lost without him.

Re: Gran Torino Fastback - Vinyl Roof

When you did the top did you do any special prep work to defend against future rust? If so, what did you use? Vinyl tops look nice but sadly they sure aren't nice over time.
You did a really great job! I would think a person would have to really good at being precise when doing one. I sure don't think I'd even attempt it. I'd have it totally off sideways or something. I can't even cut a straight line on wood when I have a line to follow!

Talking Re: Gran Torino Fastback - Vinyl Roof

Thanks, I used a good metal rust inhibitor primer. But hell no I would not even try to glue the top on. I sent it out to a vinyl top guy. less the aggravation for $200

Thumbs up Re: Gran Torino Fastback - Vinyl Roof

I believe I did see this 72 GTS doing a burn out leaving from my shop the other day........IT IS ALIVE! Good job K9ONE! Dash work looks great, too.

Car sounds and runs great. Going to be a very sweet ride after paint. You have been a good student! Ha! Seriously, you have done a first class job.
