Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

Thanks for the compliments!
I hope to get back to the cowl panel repairs soon, been busy helping a buddy who is a regular here with his 72 GTS project the last few weeks, but maybe next weekend I'll get back after it. Always a bonus to have friends help with these kinds of projects along the way. Thanks again for the comments.
This is a shot of the rear of the frame, I didn't include any when I started this thread. Digital photography has been a lifesaver with this project.

Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

Everything looks awesome! Did you build your rotisserie from a pair of engine stands?

Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

I didn't use engine stands, but I have seen some built from them. I built my rotisserie from scratch after looking a few different ones out there at auto body trade shows. Took a couple of weekends to build, but did it for about 500 bucks total. There are a few good plans on the internet, too.

Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

yes I've seen those plans on the internet. Some are ok and some are overkill but extremely nice in my opinion. Yours I think is just right. It just looked like you may have started with engine stands that's all. Very nice job on the car and the rotisserie!

Thumbs up Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

It has been about 6 months since I had any time to get back on this thing, but today I spent 12 hours sandblasting the body shell. I feel it tonight! 100 pound bags of sand seemed to get heavier as the day progressed!(happy Father's day to me!)
Came out well I think, but looks like I am in for some more metal work than originally anticipated. Made some swiss cheese out of a few thin and rusty places!
Nice to have some progress made on it again though.
Start with metal work next weekend, floor pan repairs first, then cowl.
Probably going to do both quarter panels with patch panels, will be quicker. Inner cowl panel did better than I thought it would, only went through in a few places, easy enough to repair where it did.
I'm Back in the saddle again on this project....finally.

Re: 72 GTS frame restoration

Nice, I love those cars. My sister bought a new 72 351C 4v red with black top. Traded it for a 74 pea green Mustang II Ghia.
