Re: 445cid Windsor Stroker

Latest pic...

Got plug wires routed, dipstick installed, oil filter adapter & filter, and carb spacer. From the intake up is all temporary right now just to check fitment. I just tracked my pushrods and they were delivered today. So the plan for the evening is to pop the pushrods in, check clearance there, check for proper lifter preload, then run the valves. Tomorrow I'll pre-lube to make sure oil is getting everywhere it needs to be before I bolt the intake manifold on. Hopefully by this time tomorrow, it will be ready to go on the dyno. March 8th seems a long way off at this point.

Re: 445cid Windsor Stroker

WOW! That looks great. With 445ci and a hyd roller, it should be a torque monster. I agree that engines set to "KILL" typically do not make great street machines. Properly building an engine for the street takes a different line of thought. HotRod is getting better, but in the past, I have seen featured engines that would be a dog in the car yet produce wild results on the dyno. Huge Cam, huge carb, poor everything else. Interested in seeing your torque curve on the dyno.

Re: 445cid Windsor Stroker

I know Brent quite well talking to him over the years now and let me first say, this is a very well thought out high end street motor

However, dont mistake it for a truck motor just because its a hyd roller. 330+ cfm heads, a custom 250 @ .050 hyd roller cam with cutting edge ramp design and all the lastest tricks and goodies to make power. He didnt do a thing "off the shelf" on this one

This hyd cammed motor has more cam and more head flow than most of the hot rods around and most of all is very very well matched and big block displacement

I have a feeling this is going to be a very wicked, and drivable Windsor.

Moreover, if he makes too much more power than my 489 I am going to have to go back to the drawing board

Boy I hope it doesnt beat me up too bad LOL

Re: 445cid Windsor Stroker

Well, only 23 more days till dyno time.

I gave myself plenty of time so that if any unexpected surprises popped up, I'd have time to maneuver.

Just so happens, I've had two.

1. My dyno guy didn't have any headers to fit TW-R heads. I was unable to locate any set of headers that would work, so I had to have a set of custom headers built. I wasn't too happy about that, but I didn't have any options.

2. I had rear main seal issues. I waited until the engine was finished and on the cradle to try and put the one-piece rear seal in. I had all kinds of issues. The seal wouldn't go. I tried all kinds of suggestions. I ended up having to drop the pan and drop the rear main cap. This really got my goat considering the engine was now on a cradle instead of the engine stand....plus it had 8 quarts of oil in it....plus I have a Moroso pan where the rear two bolts are IN THE PAN. There is no external flange at the back.

Anyway, I sucked it up and popped the seal in and changed that horrible orange oil pan gasket at the same time. It's back on the cradle and is awaiting dyno day.

Dude, that is one freakin sweet motor.

I think I need a little time to myself after seeing that

Who makes those valve covers? They really look nice!

Re: 445cid Windsor Stroker

Looks awesome! However, you might need more than just the one breather and a pcv valve. Without enough ventilation, it might pressurize and leak oil out of that new rear main seal under load.

Personally, I would have at least an open breather on each side of the engine, and do away with the pcv valve.

Good Luck!
