Re: 1966 fairlane 500

Thanks!

I'll give Carquest a call. I've already been through advance, NAPA, and Autozone.

I'm sure the Edelbrock pump is nice, but that $100 extra is 2/3 of an ET Street. LOL!

Re: 1966 fairlane 500

Engine and transmission are out.

I was able to get them out as one unit, but I had to crank them up into the stratosphere to pull it off.
I don't know if I'll put the stuff back in that way or not.
I didn't get any pics of the motor and trans being pulled out because everything was covered in about a 1/8" layer of greasy gunk. I didn't want to get that crap on my camera.
Everything came out pretty easy, even with all the accessories and pullies on. Hopefully when the new motor and transmission go in, the only accessories willl be a water pump and alternator.
To give everyone an idea about the grease involved, I do have some pics of the bellhousing and tranny crossmember before and after hot tanking.

Next up is the front disk brake conversion

Re: 1966 fairlane 500

Hey LXguy I see you say you have tons of extra parts lying around. I'm in need of a right lower dash trim for a non a/c 66 Fairlane. Do you have one of those you would be willing to sell? Please email me at jvanderbyl@telus.net Thanks.

Looks like a great car......I just started restoring a 66 as well, an emberglow California car this is in great shape! It was a little tricky getting it across the border to Canada but it was sure worth it..........I hope to post some pictures soon.......

Re: 1966 fairlane 500

I haven't posted up any pics of this recently. I had a hard drive crash and lost a lot of pics of the buildup. Shame on me for not having a backup.

The car's been living in a storage space for a while, but its time to get started on it again.

I do have it running with the Explorer motor and Dynamic C4. Unfortunately, there is a vibration in the motor. I *think* the crappy B&M flexplate I used might be a 28 oz instead of a 50 oz. I ordered the correct part, but I remember on installation thinking the counterweight was kind of small. I guess I'll pull it all apart and find out.

Looks pretty cool with the AR skinnies on the front.

Explorer motor at home in the engine compartment. Also did an electric fan and some really awesome headers from Ford Powertrain. Long term, battery will be relocated to the rear.

Still have the stock steelies on the back. I put the Flowmaster header back kit on this car. It worked pretty well, but the crossover had to be lengthened to accomodate the longtubes. Too bad Flowmaster welds them at the factory. This is not the finished install. The car is louder than I expected.

Got the brakes from Chockostang on the car. They work great! This was an easy job and only took a couple of hours to do. California cars are the bomb, as I didn't have to fight with rusted fasteners at all. On the other side, I lost a brake cap on the way to the storage spot.

Hopefully soon I'll have some more progress to report.
Steve
