68 mustang fastback 427 tunnel port

I've got several projects going on right now but this is by far my favorite. It started out as a shell, originally being a C code 289 automatic bread and butter fastback. I've had the all aluminum 427 tunnel port engine for years and I've always had this vision in my head of building this exact car. The body was put on a rotissorie and all body and paint work were completed a little over a year ago. I've got the 427 installed, big spline toploader 4 speed and hydraulic clutch and reconditioned 9" 4:11 posi all in place. I still have to finish interior wiring, engine compartment wiring, get the charging and starting systems installed and I'm currently putting the interior together. I hope to be ready to fire it up for the first time this spring. I'll attach some pics showing the progression of the restoration so far.

I just found a few pics of the car when I was first starting on it and a progression of pics during the painting process.

Re: 68 mustang fastback 427 tunnel port

Sure brings back good memories I had a 68 coupe with a 427 "Tunnel Port" That I raced in Super stock @ Oswego, Il and US30 Dragstrip(In.) in midwest in 70 &71 Best time was 10:85 135mph. I had a Art Carr clutch C6 trans setup with5:14 rear gears went thru traps @ 7200RPM
I have been collecting parts to do a remake just about have everything except going with differnt trans now and the Tunnel Port is 494 cu in. probaly a year away because finishing a couple other projects first. I like the fastback better than coupe but coupe was all I could find and afford back then. Good Luck with your project.

Thanks George. I'd love to see pics of your coupe when you get it done.
