1965 Mustang street/strip car

I bought my mustang last Feb. I sold my white 66 and bought this for about the same. My initial goal was to make a mostly strip weekend car but I have turned it more into a street/ strip car. It was a total basket case and needed to be trailered, but surprisingly it was in better shape then the one I sold.

This is the initial pick-up condition

work started right away on a clean up and repairs. with out any front brake parts I had to install new calipers and hardware. new bulbs, fluids, hoses, fliters, and the usual tune up stuff. I removed the carpet to find a mess. I ended up replacing both front floor pans.

Once the front floors were complete modifications came. First was headers and exhaust that I welded up myself. Using Tri-y headers with 2.25" tubing exiting the rear. The exhaust was probably the most time consuming part at this point in time.

After the exhaust was finished it was time for some new shoes. Weld draglites all around with 275/50/r15s out back. these required a bit of massaging but they fit. After the wheels and tires came the new intake, carb, cam, TC and gear setup. I installed a comps 268H cam, Weiand Stealth intake, and Holley 570 cfm street avenger carb.

Next step was a D/S safety loop, powder coated valves covers, and caltracs. I started to install the caltracs when I found the rear frame rails were rotted out BAD. So i replaced them and installed aluminum spring bushings that I made.

New suspension bushings were installed, with new adjustable drag shocks all around. I also installed a new aluminum 1/2" fuel line from tank to pump.
With the exception of working on projects since Oct I havnt done much else

I have a list and a pile of stuff in my shed. New brake lines, new msd ignition, new fiberglass teardrop hood, aluminum heads and plenty more work todo. I want to get her together for a run at the track in May so it needs to be track ready at that time.

Re: 1965 ford mustang street/strip car

rear tires are 275/50r15s on 15x7 i think. fronts are skinnies I forget the sizes lol.

New hood is mounted now. Top end is still ripped apart Im just waiting for some warmer weather (tomorrow). new heads will go in and I should be at the limit of a stock 289 sb with over 150,000 miles lol.

the hood looks really good!

Thanks

Re: 1965 ford mustang street/strip car

reason why I needed new roller rockers lol

heads on with new rockers

test fitting cut valve cover so they would clear my roller rockers.

the new grill design I made up. I removed all the bars and coral and horsIe. Im going to get a small chrome running horse and put it on the passanger side of the grill. I removed the entire front stock latch assbm from the front.

Re: 1965 ford mustang street/strip car

finished engine pictures yes I realize the green is gay but the cap was alot dark then that lol. look close enough you can see all my "custom" ideas. and my "opps" drills for the hood pins. theres alot of cleaning up and final finishing todo but the main picture wont change. I also painted the engine bay

fuel line routing isnt very good I need to get that fixed but for now it works and doesnt rub the huge raised hood

exterior shots
