Re: '68 Ford LTD

I must be getting old. I like the horsepower as well as comfort. Case in point: I found the mufflers were rusting out as well as the tailpipes. I went to Summit and thought bout getting Cherrybomb glasspacks. Well, pushing 40 years of age and with the 390, I wondered if I wanna listen to that all the time. So I guess it will be turbo muffs. I find with my F-150 I like the comfy seats, AC, Cd changer and the power and functionality. I guess I am my father sons after all lmao

Detroit Iron!

This reminds me of my old '65 Galaxie XL,the rear suspension was a three-link with a panhard bar, just like the '05 Mustang...except it had a 9" and adjustable pinion angle so I'd call it superior,as well as the front suspension. My 390 heads had bigger exhaust ports than the intakes on my 351W! FE motors are fun to work on an also not your typical 5.0 litre. I have to admit I like modern cars better(unlock the door with a key,are you serious?) but you're crusin' in style now man!

Re: '68 Ford LTD

Well, thats what I mean. I love my F150. Its great in the snow and ice, has a six disc cd changer, ac and its not bad on gas. But the old car has the classic lines and classic big block engine. Plus, the bench seat is pretty comfy although it does smell of mold. Since it is not a high dollar fastback Mustang I can modify it without worries about bringing its value down.

I am trying to include a pic of the car before I bought it. It was pretty nasty

Re: '68 Ford LTD

I used to have one just like that .It was lime metalic with a dark green interior. It came with a original 428 Q code engine. With CJ heads and a few engine mods it moved for 4400 lbs car. Also put a saginaw steering box out of a 71 boss mustang HD suspenion and a 78 ford wagon front sway bar with 15x7 inch wheels for better ride.God I mess that car.

Re: '68 Ford LTD

Heres an update: After wondering why the horn, 4-ways, back up lights and turn signals do not work I removed the fancy Grant steering wheel, well the previous dildo did not put the horn plate in it, plus the 4 ways come on when the steering wheel is turned so I guess I need to remove the adapter plate and see what else was wrecked in the column. I had to scrape pine tar off it cause it was left under a tree, one of his kids put a hammer through the windshield and the car has mis matched brake rotors upfront, oh and the exhaust system is held on with clothes hangers, I hate when morons touch cars....

Re: '68 Ford LTD

here are some pics of the new steering wheel and tach. I got the tach from Trashline for twenty bucks and it works great. I had to build a bracket. I used a piece of shelf 90 degree angle stock and bent it into a U-type shape then mounted the tach on the column with a hose clamp. The hardware cost about 4 dollars plus the angle that I had in my junk drawer. I painted it (bracket)black to hide it in the car. The steering wheel is a Grant wheel. I picked that style cause it is the type that one would see in a speed shop in the 60's and 70's, a good classic type wheel. I am trying to keep mods limited to parts that were available in the cars lifetime.

Cool Re: '68 Ford LTD

Oh yeah, note the rat debris on the floor board. I pulled the fuse box and glove liner out and cleaned the garbage out. I soaked the glove liner in oxi clean and hot water(It was the plastic type, I did note that the liner in my Galaxie is cardboard type). I also found out that the fuse box has two male spade connectors that are a keyed source for power. This is where I wired the tach too for a power source. Of course I used a female spade connector and all works great now.
