You think $2,500 to get the old flattie running? Don't you know that after doing all the work necessary to get the 302 put in and the tranny and driveshaft and mounts and linkage Etc...
Don't you think you'll be a bit MORE than $2,500?

well im doing 99% of the work on the 302, everything except machine work. and i have a friend that does that so thats cheap.
mounts i will be making, and the linkage and stuff wont be much.
im looking around 250 for a rebuild kit for the engine, 100 for the machine work, figure 150 for the rest of the missing parts, then another 100-150 for a carb, and 50 for headers.
me and dad will be doing the rebuild, mainly me, he will be helping put it in and get mounts made, etc.

It's your car, your plan so stick with it. No one else knows your situation better than you do. period.

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe
well we pulled the flattie today. when it was out the front end lifted like 4 inches lol. i am going to get in there, fix a few rust holes, then wire brush everything and apply some por 15 in there while the engines out. it looks empty in the bay. ill get pics later the garage is a freaking mess right now with 2 cars, 2 engines, plus alot of junk laying around lol. wont be able to get pics till after friday as thats when the guy from n. dakota is coming in to pick up the flattie and the garage will empty some lol.

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe
well i have been busy with the wire brush a few hours after work this week and also clearing the bay out. i will be applying the first coat of por-15 tomorrow and before i do i will be taking pics.
i have all the wiring out of the bay, blower motor is removed, and other misc stuff removed. have a few spots left with a brush i need to hit tomorrow as well as get all the rubber off the mounts as its rotted out.
also im going to, for now at least, take the wire wheel to the other rust spots and spray some flat black on them and see how it looks with that all one color.
owell ill take pics tomorrow

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe
alright, got some pics, sorry for crappy quality its taken with my phone.
this is the engine bay cleaned up before i started por-15. minus tools in the way lol.
this is the first coat of por-15
and what i added when i did the 2nd coat on the xmember
im going to get further back on the frame either tomorrow night or sunday, didnt think about that one till i had the xmember started lol. i have some rust to fix on the drivers side but i was just trying to get a feel for how it would look, and i like it. im debating on doing it to the firewall as well but also thinking about duplicolor spray on bedliner for undercoating and maybe hit the firewall as well.
the a arms i dont know how im going to get fully covered becuase the louvers are spot welded and i cant remove that panel w/o cutting.
i am having to pull the upper grill bar to fix some rust by the head light buckets. and have snapped a few bolts. owell i figured it would happen lol.
thats about all i got done this week so far. overall i like the look of the por-15 in there. it looks a lot better than before.

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe
well i have not done much since aside from remove most of the grill, i have been extremley wore out after work and had no drive to work on the ride.
however, today i took the 289 block over to a machinest and had him measure it up to tell me what i need for parts. .10 on the main and rod bearings, and .30 for piston and rings, also suggested to use moly rings, and a high flow oil pump.
machine work and internal parts are going to cost around 900 but i have the parts covered right now, going to order them as soon as my payment to my credit card posts from na auto parts.
machine work will come in a month or 2 when i get a little more saved back up.

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe
I'm sorry, but I have to agree with the guys that a flathead is required for this car. Instead of ending on that note, might I say that we are on a Ford Muscle site, and SOMEBODY has got to have an old Flatty laying around in good shape!! I'd give you one of my spare engines but they are a 200 I6 and a 351M block
