1951 Ford Deluxe

Hello all, figured i would share my project.

It is a 1951 Ford Deluxe 2 door. Currently has a flathead v8 in it but it will be sold. I am going to put a 302 into it.

and yes there is a story behind this car, while not much of one, but it is a story lol.

My dad bought a 1950 deluxe from the same owner when he wouldnt sell this one. At the time it was promised to his grandson. Well 2 years later his grandson came and worked on it one day, pulled the water pumps, draining the af from the engine, and left it with the hood up and pumps off for 2 years before the owner found it. that next weekend it was offered to my dad, which resulted me in staking a deal for 650 for the car.

The man who sold it was a great friend of the family and has sold us 4 cars, my first car, a 1976 AMC Gremlin, my dads 50 Ford, My dads 63 belair, and my 51 Ford. Unfortunately he passed away in october of last year in a car accident and his wife passed a few months later. So you could say this car has sentimental value to me and my dad.

I wanted to keep the flathead in it, but it is going to take alot of money to get it just running again, not to mention where i want to get it.

The body has some rust issues, but what project doesnt.

Here is a link to some pictures, more pictures are in the subfolder on the side if you click.

Im currently working on the brake and bearing systems. all lines are getting replaced, new wheel cylinders, shoes, etc..

And incase your wondering what brought me to this forum, is the 302 im building. here are pics of the engine.

That is a very thoughtful ans inspiring story

Welcome to FM and hope you stay for MORE than just the Tech stuff...

That car would be MUCH nicer with the Flattie in it and few more carbs

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe

Well, while the flattie would be killer, a nice little 302 will cetainly motivate it quite well.
It's better to save it and fix her up than waste money on a new car.
Very cool!

I agree, flathead all the way. Do you have to have it done anytime soon? Make a long project out of it, work on it as you have the funds. I've always wanted to build a flathead V8 and there are lots of aftermarket parts available for them now...stroker cranks, forged pistons, Edelbrock heads, etc.

That's going to be a great project. I had the same car as my first driver back in H.S. in the sixties. I like the idea of the 302 in a stock body '51.

do i have to soon? no, but if i were to try to spend 2500 on the motor to just get it running again it would take me 5 years. i know it would be worth more with the orig engine in it, but i do not plan on selling it at all due to the sentimental value to me and my father.

Re: 1951 Ford Deluxe

DH is RIGHT AGAIN!

Go back in the field and TAKE that Visor off that old Chrysler and put it on your Ford

You think $2,500 to get the old flattie running? Don't you know that after doing all the work necessary to get the 302 put in and the tranny and driveshaft and mounts and linkage Etc...

Don't you think you'll be a bit MORE than $2,500?
