79 Ford F100 2wd

This is my 79 F100. It has a history in my family. My dad bought it in 1998 to tow his race car, and after going from a 302/c4/2.75 to a 351/c4/3.50 and finally a 460/C6/3.50 in 2002. He sold it afterwards to a local townie. I was always saddened by this.

June 2007, the truck was up for sale, I bought it back. Of course for 2x the amount it was sold for.

Since I bought it back I've done quite a bit..

When my dad owned it in 2002.

We swapped noses to a 73/75 nose before he sold it.

I bought it like this in June of 2007.

(That's my dads 57 Bel Air next to me.)

Now the truck looks like this.

I'm not sure if I should list all the modifications I have done, and am in the middle of.. or if I should let people find what I've done?

Re: 79 Ford F100 2wd

Love those trucks, I took top 5 best of show with my 1973 F100 at the super nats in TN in 1997 and 1999. Glad somebody changed the grille out to a 73-75, much better looking for me anyways. I too installed a alum Ford steering wheel, thats the best looking wheel to me period! Glad you got it back after your dad sold it, I sold mine to a old dude around here and he has put every tacky looking piece of junk on it from AutoZone he can get and it kills me everytime I see it. Heres a pic of my old one.

Re: 79 Ford F100 2wd

My truck actually came with the wheel, it's a Ranger XLT. I put the Torino center cap because I thought it looked better than the blue Ford logo.

The guy who bought it from my dad wasn't too bad with it. He put 6K miles on it in 6 years. It was always garaged. He had exhaust bent up for it, which I promptly redid (I'm not a fan of Flowmasters), had the bed side panels fixed, and POR15 coated the frame. On the bad side, he undid the A/C, which my dad had set up for R134. He did hand me the compressor though, hah.

I'll post some more pictures of the progress I've made so far, since I bought the truck. Hope you guys like pics, lol.

Cool looking truck, that body style is the best that Ford built.

Re: 79 Ford F100 2wd

Thats way cool! Glad you could get your Dads old truck back.
Its sooo hard to see your dads or your own stuff messed with and driving around like a JCWhitney catouloge on wheels. makes you want to call the taste police on them and have them give you the truck/car back!

My father sold his 65 fastback 2+2 back in 85 when i was 15. Ive missed that car ever since. He had an offer to get it back in 99 from the same guy that bought it but he didnt have the cash at the time and was more interested in his model airplanes then/now anyways. (He was a Car/Model airplane guy, now just a model airplane guy)

Ive always wanted to get another one and then build it just like he had it as a nostalic kind of thing. However 2 kids and a Wife and no place to really build a car has me shackeled. So maybe in the future. Heres a couple of pics from Mustang Magazine from back in 83
now i feel bummed......
