Thumbs up Re: My Son's 1968 Fastback

Congrats to your son. That picture takes me down memory lane. I bought my '68 fastback 22 years ago and it was that exact color when I bought it. Your son's sounds like it is in a little better condition. I saw a '67 fastback GT sitting in front of someone's house in our neighborhood w/ cobwebs from the ground to the tires. What a waste. I'm thinking about buying it for my son (he's 10). I hope you guys have a lot of fun with it.

Re: My Son's 1968 Fastback

Washington State does have laws for new drivers that only alow a sibling in the car with him for 6 months I think.

WE are working on the interior at the moment. The dash lights don't work and the shifter light doesn't either. I have an old wiring harness that I am going to let him look at so he can what color the wires are supposed to be for the dash lights. Bought him his 1st tool a test light..ha-ha. As far as the shifter light goes it was a stick car and the harness is absent to the shifter, he gets to look at our parts car to see what is missing on ours versus the other one. Shoold be easy since the carpet is out of the parts car. I know what is wrong with the dash lights just a cut wire but I'm giving him the chance. Here are some pics of the interior.

Re: My Son's 1968 Fastback

Man, I know how cool it is to get my first car. I got a 68 torino GT fastback for $50 out of some guy's forest when i was 13. I paid for it (and all the parts since), and also paid for my 1937 Ford 1 1/2 ton flatbed for $2000 that im restoring now. Im only 16 right now, and I found that it was a great feeling when i paid for my cars with my hard earned money. But I did get a truck given to me on my 16th birthday, a 1978 ford F-350 camper special, that is extremely nice, and is my daily driver till the snow hits. So i know how it is to buy a car and have one given to me, but going out to find a job and making that last payment on a car is a great feeling. I'm just glad that my dad is a car guy and lets me drag old junk home, not saying that he hasnt dragged enough projects home already. By the way, congratulations on finding that great car for your son. I live up in Republic Washington, and there are alot of great shows in the north up here, take your kid around with the car, and get out to some shows in the spring.

Talking Re: My Son's 1968 Fastback

Nice looking fastback. I dont think there is anything wrong with your son having a classic mustang for a first vehicle. My parents helped me buy my first car when I was 15. It is a 1968 coupe c-code that I still have and I am the 3rd owner. I have had it for 21 years. Im glad to see that the new generation still has an interest in the classic muscle. I would have to agree that you should have him at least helping you work on his car if something has to be fixed on it. He will only appreciate a car like that even more when he has put his own blood, sweat and tears into making and keeping it a nice car. Congratulations Kid!
