Not true at all........

Late last summer when the 63 Galaxie was broken I decided to bracket race my 60 Edsel. For whatever reason all I would run against were Chevys and these two Mavaricks at the local track. I beat them like 6 weeks in a row so the joke was "Fear The Mighty Edsel".

As a matter of fact in January 1973 I bought a brand new Maverick Grabber 302...........

Greg I would honestly love to see what you could do to a maverick after seeing the rest of your projects not to mention Doug(fxcomet) either of you I imagine could do an outstanding job. Also someday I swear my maverick will pop outta the galaxies trunk and pounce on you and the battlestar when you least expect it. YOu should have kept that grabber you bought back in 73. The Mav was the first car I bought at a still wet behind the ears tender age of just turned 15. I hated it. It had a black vinyl top and was booger green. Had a weezer 200 six cylinder. Hey at least now it is grabber blue with a roller 306 ci that runs decent times at the track and gets driven almost daily if I have gas money. Restored 10 years ago and after the Maverick Nationals in Owensboro Kentucky this July 27-31 It will get it's second resto and will be reincarnated with a new look and function. Including Rack and Pinion steering, adjustable coil overs frt , tubular a arms, 17 inch rims ,Highly modified rear suspension that will utilize trailing arms, pan hard bar and adjustable coil overs. Same roller 306 just a bigger camshaft, a Tremec 5 speed close ratio, a little more comfortable interior including procar rally seats, white face gauges, Paint will be Azure Blue with satin black stripes, chin spoiler, pop open gas cap from an early mach 1, and so on and so forth.........the sad part is this will take close to 2 years to complete without any set backs. Sorry to ramble but I love mavericks

Having a "vision" for your car is half the battle. So many cars have been so many things over the years that they never do any single thing well at all. I look forward to seeing progress report pics on your Mav.

Oh heck, might as well put a pic of my junker on here. don't laugh too hard!

it all started with a lowly '75 that I bought for $10 from a guy I worked with years ago (when I was 17 I think). It was to be a father/son project for a street rod to drive back & forth to school. We pulled the 200/3 speed and put in a 302/C4--small cam, 10:1 compression (we've been hotrodders since I was knee-high to a grasshopper), yaddya. Anyway, first time I drove it, it was so snappy compared to the old 350 chevy I had in a nova years ago that dad said there was no way we were ever going to drive it on the street...probably wasn't any more powerful than the nova, but it was much more responsive and running with open headers just made sound SO much better. It was destined for a race car from that day on. We put 4.11 gears in the 8" with a mini spool, 28x9 MT slicks and went racing...went I think something like mid-12's in the 1000' and thought we were flying. Nonetheless, the urge to go faster got the best of me (and probably always will) and I had a set of 'good' iron heads done up (spent over $800 on them....factory castings LOL) and picked up about a second, then the roller cam...etc, etc. Later on, went to RPM heads and my gosh what a huge difference!

Now, it's a 415w 11:1 compression +/- alky injected, around 600 HP give or take. Never been to a dyno. I did all the body work, backhalf, M2 front end, engine, powerglide trans, narrowed my own 9", TIGged the cage here at home with a $20 pawn-shop tig, etc...all the work was done with these 2 hands, not farmed out like you see so often these days (no offense to anyone! You guys do great work...I just wanted to do it to see how it was all done). I do all my own engines, 4 link work, front suspensions, transmissions, everything is done in a 2 car garage in the city. If something came up and I had to quit racing, there is no way I could ever sell this thing...I have too much of my blood, sweat, and tears invested (not to mention the countless thousands of $$$). I'd have to put it into storage until the time comes when my kids, if I ever have any, are old enough to enjoy it.

Sweet !!!

I respect you doing all the work yourself, I started out letting other people do some of the work and then found out real quick that I couldn't afford to pay someone. Looks like you've done some good work to your car and it makes you feel that much better when you outrun somebody that just paid someone to do all the work.

A couple years ago I started doing everything myself, rear gears, tranny, motor, electrical,etc..... and it just makes me feel good to know that if something goes wrong, I only have one person to blame!! ME.....

The blue with black stripes....that is what color I think I will go with when I get ready to repaint mine. I always have liked that color scheme!
