Maverick with AOD. What headers?

I have the EFI 302 in the Maverick. But I'm having a hard time with headers. As my username states I'm more versed in the Mustang then the Maverick. So I have a few different sets of early mustang headers that do not work for one reason or another. (one hits the shift lever on the tranny, another hits the motor mount, one hits the steering box, and so on)

My question is those of you that have done the AOD conversion, what headers are you guys running?

I Had an AOD in my 1970 grabber clone, but it was bolted to a 5.8L and had no choice but to use stock cast iron manifolds, and weavin the pipe by the linkages,

try getting Headers as if an FMX was in there since the AOD was based on the FMX maybe close to same dimentions

I used Hedman headers for a 302, C-4. But I also have manual steering and a B&M floor shifter. The big thing is cutting the alum ears of the trans.

Maverick with AOD. What headers?

I have 289/aod in 62 comet and had probs with steering box. Only cast iron manifold I found that fit was the 289 hipo exh manifolds. Believe me, I worked at a vintage mustang parts shop for years and tried at least 10 different year/model cast iron manifolds. Even the RH hipo manifold had to be grinded a tiny bit on the exh pipe flange. Didn't try any headers because my car rides to low.

Hope this helps.

Maverick with AOD. What headers?

I ordered a set of flowtechs from summit, they fit very nice. I had to modify the tranny linkage so it wasn't staggered just a striaght linkage and it worked beautifully. They fit around the large pan nice and bolted up like nicely. I had to cut off the horns that are on the bellhousing, but that was about it.

thanks for all your help...

Sorry they were dynomax not flowtechs. I got them from summit the summit part number is WLK-85112. if you going to run an AOD, you will need to modify the tranny linkage and also the bellhousing has a couple of casting horns on the side that will need to be trimmed, but not biggy, they don't hold anything. the header hits them just slightly, so you can either modify (hammer method) the tube or shave off those ears. your choice...

Gee seems like someone said that earlier. Asking for help then blowing it off, won't get you anymore help down the line.

chill out dacofa... we are all on here to help each other. I didn't say or even insinuate that I blew off what you said about cutting off the ears. I just wanted to stress again, that its not a bolt up. there is a bit of work that needs to be done.
