Maverick Semi-Automatic-Any ever built?

If u look in the early Maverick brochure (69.5) it mentions a Semi-Auto trans available with the 170 motor, I would suspect a C4 sans a valve body, not unlike the Chevy Nova Torque Drive.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen one of these ? Or was it one of those got advertised but never built deals?

Well there was a "green dot" c4 valvebody. Whether or not it made it to a Maverick was a different story, but there in fact was a valve body that was similar to what you describe. I have never seen one.

Oddly enough, all C4s I've ever driven, and even my Lightning and my father's F150 are all semi-automatic. They stay in whatever gear you have it in. Mine stays in low until it bounces off the limiter, 2nd is the same way....D is normal. Also, in second, it will take off in 2nd gear, same with any C4 I've ever had. I guess you could call that 'semi-automatic'.

Well this type was an auto with no valve body, you had to start in 1, go to 2 and then D. If you started in D it started in 3rd.
On the Chevy Torque-Drives, same thing

Had a coupl;e early Mavericks and never heard ot that kind of tranny in one. I think it's a myth... Maverick's were not a super special get some attention car back then and I doubt they had a c-4 sans valve body... The Greed Dot c-4 I can assure you it had though... Put it in 2nd and it stayed in 2nd no matter what. 1st was 1st and Drive was all 3.

It won't let me in unless I'm a member...

I still think it's not a factory thing though.....

Lived down the street from a guy that had one in the early 70's.
Ford car parts master catalog lists 2 models of semi automatic
1 is for Before 7/14/69 part# D0DP 7000-B includes converter
2 is for After 7/14/69 part# D0DP 7000-E includes converter
It was a real base model with the 13" tires and hub caps.

The 1970 Maverick was available with the "semi-automatic" C4. It was a factory offered manual valve body tranny. It was only available for one year because it did not sell. It seemed that folks wanted an automatic to shift itself. Now we spend $300 and more for a valve body to convert our C4's to manual shift. Gotta love it!
