Dash problems-70

My buddy picked up a 70 maverick and the dash doesn't work. I know this sounds weird but the speedomoter doesn't work, gas guage doesn't work, and it doesn't light up. Also the windshield wipers dont work. Any help getting these things fixed would be great, thank you.

The first thing you need to do is remove the dash and see if the panel plug is plugged in. Then you need to see if the cable is there for the speedometer and if it is plugged on to the speedometer. Check the fuse panel for blown fuses - and the common corrosion and rust. Make sure you have a ground wire from the battery negative to the engine and to the frame and/or the sheet metal (firewall or inner fender).

Yeah... Derrrrrr, take it apart and take a looksie...
THEN post up what is found... Can't fix it if it's not broken... And if you can't see it you can't say wether it's broken or not

Re: Dash problems-70

Ok, everything was hooked up but still no dash lights. Found the problem with the speedo, no speedo gear in the tranny. As for the gas gauge I'm thinking that it may be a sunken float, but he's got a full tank right now. Right now tha major problem is getting the speedo working, it has a C4 and 8" with 2.79 gears. I've been to a ton of parts stores today and nobody has the part, I'm going nuts!

E-bay will have a C-4 plastic gear for you.

It's the one that goes on the end of the cable right? They are color coded for diffrent applications.

Some older trannies have a nylon gear that goes over the output shaft and some have the teeth cut into the shaft it's self... I'm not fullly sure on the C-4's though

He'll probably have to take it to a shop, I don't have the patience to handle fixing his car, my car, trying to find a GF, and maintain my grades in school. I'll let ya'll know what ends up happening.

Re: Dash problems-70

If the gas gauge and other gauges don't work it might just need a dash mounted voltage regulator. Then again that has nothing to do with the lights.

Re: Dash problems-70

Insturment voltage regulator will cause all sorts of problems. It's taped to the left side upper corner of the back side of the cluster and is known for failing. I "think" auto krafters has them new. May be wrong. As far as the lights not working, have you tested the flat plug on the cluster for power?

As far as having a lot going on, yeah I am in the same boat. Except for the "looking for a girlfriend" part. That one always gets you in trouble! LOL. You think you got a lot going on now? Wait til you get married and have a couple kids. Say goodbye to the toys unless the ol' lady is involved as well.

Good luck
