71-73 Mach I

Can anyone tell me if Ford ever made a Mach I convertible between 71 & 73? The ones I've seen around here have all been fastbacks. I'm guessing the answer would be in the Mustang Red Book but I don't have a copy. Thanks!!

Wouldn't be the first time. I remember reading it in my mustang recognition guide. The problem with that is, someone borrowed it and never gave it back. Im still looking though.

I've only ever seen one portrayed as a Mach, and the story was that somone had gone to Ford, bought two yellow 1971 Mustangs, only that one was a Mach, and the other was a convertible. The Mach was wrecked, so anything and everything that was on the mach, that made it a Mach, was swapped to the convertible. It was a good looking car, but not a factory original as one would believe simply by looking at photos.

I've seen the ones you are talking about. They actually have a tape and strip set but are not designated as Mach Is. You could order the paint a strips but they didn't say Mach I on them. Some owners might have added them though.

you could get those stripes on any old hardtop as well, as part of the exterior decor group option.
