Six trouble, help please?

My six will not idle properly although it runs fine at higher rpms. Also as soon as I put it in gear (auto), it stalls. It was running fine then started to have promblems at stops. (I replaced all the usual tune up parts.) This is my daily driver.
Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks

Start hunting for a vacuum leak.
Check your brake booster first. Step REAL hard on the brakes. If the car stalls out, your booster is bad.

Do you still have points in it? those could be going out. Any fuel leaks on the carb? especially around the throttle shaft.

Carb guys can clarify, but Isn't there usually a very small by-pass circuit in the carb that by-passes the butterfly at Idle? I think the theory is that when the throttle is closed, a small bit of fuel can still get by into the engine to keep it idling. (In fact it is called the idle circuit I think)

I used to clean these things with a very, very small wire. I think one time I burned the coating off a bread twist tie wire, its that small. Look down the carb throat, between the butterfly and the manifold see if there is a small hole.

There's a farmers fix for ya.
