Progress of RatStang

12/20/04

I cut out the Floor Pans, Fire Wall Extensions and the front Frames, and Seat Platforms. Using a Air nibbler, and a Air chisel, And a High Speed Cut-Off Wheel, And air Shears, Grinder, And some Pry Bars,

Fitted the new Front Frame (The one that runs from the Front Rear Fender Apron to the Seat Platforms) Used some Vise Grips to hold it in place and fitted the Floors and Fire Wall Extensions to it then removed them and welded the Frames in.
Fitted the Floors and the Fire Wall Extensions to the frame again, Then I used a Rotary Brush and removed all the rust paint etc. Prepped the edges of the new panels, Then I sprayed it all with 3m Weld-Thu Primer and Stitch welded the Fire Wall Extensions in place then I Fitted the floors Again, and welded them in place (Top And Bottom) I did not get the camera tell after I installed the Floor Pans so I don't got no before pictures
The first one I did (Passenger Side) took 2 weeks and the second one I did (Driver Side) took 4 days

This is the Quarter Panel Before I got the car this way the lower passenger side quarter was just as bad

And the side of the Trunk Floor pan

I got all the Lead Body Filler that factory used on to fill the Roof to the Quarter Panel off. Then I started to Drill the welds out Front of the Quarter, and the Roof, and the ones in back.

Here is a picture of the Rear of the Quarter Panel.
I tried to take it off in one peace But it was a lot easier and faster to just cut it in half like this

Then I cut the Font of the Quarter Panel around the Wheel Housing.
Laid it down and drilled the welds holding the quarter to the Rocker Panel

And Here is all of it disassembled.

And here is the new quarter panel being fitted

and then started Drilling all the welds on the Wheel Housing

Well after 12 Hours in the Garage Drilling out 82 welds on the Wheel Housing. It was hard finding all the welds they are every where. I used A Drill, Pry Bar, Air Chisel, And a few large screw drivers.

Then I Fitted the new Inner and Outer Wheel housings in place
They did not fit very well took me 3 days about 2 hours a day to get them to fit right.

Well when I was going to put the wheel housings back on I noticed that the frame was all rusted out so I ordered a pair and a pair of trunk floors from mustangs unlimited

and got them on Monday and got started yesterday

I cut the old one out using instructions from Mustang Monthly's web site. And welded the new ones in place

here is the old frame.. As you can see the screwdriver went right threw it

Here is the picture of my fitting the Trunk Floor in place.
It was hard because mustangs unlimited Folded the trunk floors in the box ***

then I punched all of it out so I could mimic the spot welds
and ill weld them in tomorrow
wonder if there is going to be an original peace of metal left on the car

I prepped the top side of the frame and the bottom side of the floor and then I sprayed it down with 3m Weld-thru Primer.
Then I Welded it in and then I welded the Trunk Floor Bracket in.
The whole time it was disassembled I had a jack under the side so it did not sag over night it came out pretty level

Then i Dropped the car to make sure none of it sagged and that it was all level.

Well I welded the wheel housings in and got the quarter back on and started fitting the deck lid and the door to the quarter

After lining up the deck lid to the quarter gap and tacking the quarter in place

After the Full Quarter was properly positioned at the front and my door gap looked good, i made my first MIG weld at the very bottom of the quarter where it meets the rocker. it all lined up well

and then I fitted the bottom rear of the quarter panel to my new dual exhaust gt rear valance

All the non EDP coated “repro” panels have been striped to bare metal and sprayed with Zinc phosphate (Zero rust prep step). To slow down flash rust and "enhances" paint adhesion.

I have changed. “front to back. R rear fender apron, Both fire wall extensions, Both front frames, Both front floor pans, Both quarter panels, Both inner wheel housings, Both outer wheel housings, Both rear frames, Both trunk floors, and a rear apron

Here is the sides
There a little to big so just click on them to see

Here is the trunk floors

Here is the rear frames

Front frame

Inside

And front

This or next week I plan on spraying the inner fenders engine compartment all of the under body etc. with Zero Rust
