question for aluminum radiator users...

what brand? How many rows/thickness? Crossflow? Double pass? Mounting?

I'm interested in getting one for my 66, I just want to make sure I get one that fits well, works well, and is good quality without breaking the bank. Currently running a OEM style replacement 3 row, but it just doesn't have the cooling capacity I need. I need something that will never go over 180*, regardless of weather or traffic conditions.

I have a brass radiator, but its a 3 core heavy duty unit from national parts depot, on my 67 mustang with a gt 40 302 from ford. I think the key is my fan, a strait blade electric fan from Spal. It never gets hot (I cant tell you any numbers cuz I still have the stock gauge).for absolute insurance I would use a pusher fan on the fron too especially if you have air conditioning.

Since you're in GA, you should look at Griffin Thermal Products. They're right up the street in Greenville, SC. They make a killer rad for early mustangs.

You don't need an aluminum radiator if all you want to do is keep it down around 180. I run the stock four core radiator in my 68 with the Dual Spal Fans and in 102 degree heat it never gets above 185. Now if you want the bling factor of having a high price radiator then go with the griffin or one of the other aluminum radiator places. One of the main keys of a cooling system is airflow. Having fans that cover the entire radiator surface makes a big difference to and having the proper shroud.

68's have bigger radiator. In fact, every mustang has a bigger radiator than the 65-66's. Most cars will do fine with a stock brass radiator with an extra row or two added. Not the case with 65-66 mustangs. The radiator is just too small dimensionally. The aluminum units are capable of transferring more heat through the same size radiator.

You can get the radiator that I run in your car. I have seen it done. I am sure it is an easy modification and still would be cheaper then spending 500+ on an aluminum one. Below is a link of one with the same radiator that I have in a 65 Mustang. Of course it is the Griffin alluminum one but that one is the same exact size as what I have in my car. Just trying to save you some money by giving you ideas. Hope that helps.

it looks like he cut his core support....hmmmm. I'll do some measuring over the weekend and see what I can come up with. I have an used 67 fairlane radiator lying around somewhere, I think its the same one as the 67-8 mustangs used, I'll see how it measures up. Most of the aluminum units I've looked at have been around $250, I've taken a liking to Howe, they seem to make good stuff.

Wow I can't hardly believe you can find one for the price. Maybe they are a lot cheaper for the 64 thru 66 cars. I know the cheapest aluminum radiator for the 67 68 at least for the one that will cool right is like 375. Yes you can probably get ones cheaper but they are not as big as I would put on my car. I would fit the biggest radiator you can then get yourself a killer electric fan set up from Spal. They make some of the best aftermarket fans out ther and the dual fans fit my 24 inch radiatior perfectly. Here is a pic of what I have in my car.
