Electric Fan Clearance/Spacing

Is 0.6 inches too short of spacing between an electric fan and a water pump shaft? Anyone know if the engine torque will move enough to hit a fan at that distance?

Can't answer your question about torque causing a closing of the gap, but I have seen less distance on some high output motors without issue. I think you'll be fine.

Mine has about 1/4", but I have a torque strap. AFAIK, the water pump pulley has never hit the fan motor,

I dont have enough room between my fan and my pulley to change the belt . I didn't even think about that when i installed it. I jsut have to push the fan in to flex it enough to pull the belt out...

BUT, there is no sign of the WP hitting the fan, and I have no torque strap. Not to mention only during braking would it matter, torque is longitudinal along the car, acceleration would push the engine back.

engine torque rotates the motor up....doesn't move it forward or backwards unless something quite dramatic happens.

well it rotates it opposite the direction of crank rotation. Along a longitudinal axis I should say. Acceleration (of the car) due to inertia will push the engine back some. Braking will bring if forward some.
