i am about to start rebuilding my 67 mustang and was wondering if anyone had pictures of a 460 in the stock engine bay? i really want the engine to fit under the stock hood which i think is a long shot and if anyone has suggestions for a good 450-500hp rebuild let me know and thanks in advance!

If you go to http://www.mpgheads.com/ you can see their kit in a 67 fastback under the headers and mounts section. There is also another good picture under the shock tower brace kit. They use a mount which actually lowers the engine in the engine bay and increases hood clearance over other setups like the Crites Restoration setup. They are also using a very tall intake in the pics so a more normal dual plane should give you lots of clearance. In the pics it looks like spark plug clearance is very tight to the shock towers with the engine so low though.

thanks for the link! and spark plug clearance is my other issue but i will probably modify the shock towers for clearance but i got the engine for free so might as well stuff her in.

I have to admit its a swap I've been thinking about for a long time as well...My brother did this swap back in the 70s when nobody thought it was possible. He used the motor out of a junkyard 1970 ford brougham and replaced his blown up 428 in his 69 mach 1.He actually modified and combined the two motor mounts and got the 429 to fit in the car without too much trouble. He said plug access was actually better than on the FE engines.

It can be done w/o even cutting the towers, but plug access is pretty bad and no room for headers. Look in the tech section of this site, they have some articles on cutting towers and other 460 stuff.

A 460 will do that, especially with an 8-71 blower and twin holley double pumpers on top.
