car decides to not start. . what to check?

ok, car is a 65 coupe, holley 600 cfm electric choke, edelbrock performer intake, stock cam, Proform HEI distributor. added all the non'stock parts in may. has been running strong till september. MPG starting getting bad, think the carb needs tuning. THEN last week it decided not to start. let it sit a day and then it started no problem. that was two weeks ago. on sunday my dad and i redid spark plug wires (i had left them too long) and hooked everything up and it ran fine. try to start it today, doesn't want to start. again, its cranking plenty, plenty of gas going in carb. what can a check next?

Hey Sparky.... check your point gap, then OHM your coil and see if the resistance is in an acceptable range.

figured it out and problem is fixed. hopefully. turns out the module on my HEI dist. went out. went to autozone and got the new part. $20 fix. however, its only 6 months old! next time, i'll just dig out my old dist. and run a petronix on it.

We had the same problem in my chevy truck, it would take 1 moduole a month! I got sick of changing em (the stupid distributor is in the back) and changet it over to a msd dizzy with an external coil. Has run great ever since.
