Clearance issues in a 393 W / 65 Fastback swap?

Have you got experience of this swap ? I am building a 393 W stroker for a friend and we are wondering about header/spark plug / shock tower clearance. I am planning to use AFR 185 heads and 1 3/4 long tube headers. I heard somebody had a problem with older Dart cast iron heads due to spark plug location and that makes me wonder about what issues I might run into with AFR heads.

I did the swap in a 67 about four years ago. There were lots of problems, first forget the Z bar if you run headers unless you have someone to make them with eyes. Forget running a stock hood unless you leave out any spacer between the manifold and carb. Prepare to due some serious tunnel cutting if you plan on a TKO or Tremec 3550 to handle the extra HP. The car was over powered, it would blow the tires off any gear. I sold that 67 then built another using all my experience from the first resoraton. I put a 347 in the engine bay along with a World Class T-5 using a cable clutch. All the power now goes to the pavement where it holds, everything fit no cutting, the shifter came right up through the hole centered and the headers fit like a glove. The car is a pleasure to drive, it's comfortable and best of all it Hauls Ass!!

Clearance issues in a 393 W / 65 Fastback swap?

I just finished up puttin a 351w in my 65 fastback. If I had to do it all over again I probably would, but I'm a HP junkie and I like the big displacement engines. Mine is stroked and poked to a 418 and I used the afr 205's. I had accufab headers and the fit is tight, but I can still change my spark plugs without raising the engine of taking off the headers. But like it was stated before if you are going to use a manual tranny forget the z-bar setup. I was going to cable operated anyway so it didn't bother me. The driveshaft has to be shortened. I still have a stock 2 row copper rad. I was using with my 302, running my 418 now. I was suprised that it hasn't gotten over 190 deg. yet. It's not 100 degrees here yet either, but I've got a good fan and thermostat. I probably wont ever build another motor this stout again but it sure is fun feeling over 500 hp and 500ft lbs of torque under the seat of you pants.
