Upholstery restoration

Hey,

I'm planning on replacing my old fiberboard door panel material, to fix some sagging and waviness in my '68 Cougar panels. I just saw the article on making panel upgrades in this issue, and wanted to know if anyone has used Luann or other panel backing material different from the pressboard that's in there now. What material would you recommend to replace the backing? Are all the pressboard materials the same? Or should I invest in a specific waterproof version of it, or plan on waterproofing whatever I use myself. If I go this route, what kind of waterproofer should I use?

Thanks,
John

I'd try ABS plastic sheet, it comes in various thicknesses. Unlike the original pressed paper crap original material or mahogany it is not affected by moisture and the mounting clips won't tear out .
